International Scone Day

Happy International Scone Day, dear tea time friends!

This is a day to celebrate one of the loveliest treats ever placed upon an afternoon tea table.

On this International Scone Day, there is perhaps no greater comfort than the timeless pairing of a warm scone beside a fragrant cup of tea. Golden at the edges, tender at the center, and served upon delicate china, the humble scone has long held its place at the heart of gracious afternoon gatherings. It is a quiet little luxury.

Traditionally enjoyed during the elegant custom of Victorian afternoon tea, the scone became a cherished centerpiece of the table: split carefully by hand, adorned with sweet strawberry jam, and crowned with a generous spoonful of rich clotted cream (or vice versa, if you prefer). The contrast of warm pastry, cool cream, and bright berry preserves is nothing short of enchanting. It is a taste that feels both nostalgic and wonderfully refined.

To serve scones with tea is to carry on a tradition of beauty and warmth.

What kind of scones do you enjoy most? Sweet or savory? How do you prefer to eat them? Plain? Glazed? With clotted cream and jam? Let us know in the comments.

Enjoy your tea and scones and have a Happy International Scone Day!
